About the Firm
Straight Answers. Fair Fees. Lawyers Who Pick Up the Phone.
The Harris Firm LLC has spent years building a different kind of Alabama law firm: flat fees you can see before you hire us, free phone consultations for uncontested divorce and probate matters, and eight attorneys across four offices who focus on family law, divorce, and probate — not a little bit of everything.
Hiring a lawyer should not feel like signing a blank check. Our flat fees are published, our consultation costs are stated up front, and our client reviews tell you what it is actually like to work with us.
In short: The Harris Firm LLC is an Alabama family law, divorce, and probate firm with eight attorneys in four offices — Birmingham, Chelsea, Huntsville, and Montgomery — serving clients statewide.
What sets us apart: Published flat fees on the services families need most — $690 uncontested divorce without minor children or $890 with minor children plus the filing fee, $750 simple wills, $750 powers of attorney, $750 quit claim deeds — and free phone consultations for uncontested divorce and probate matters.
Focused practice: We concentrate on family law, divorce, and probate. That focus means our attorneys are in the same courtrooms, in front of the same judges, handling the same kinds of cases every week.
Good to know: You do not have to live near an office. Phone consultations, electronic signatures, and statewide e-filing let us represent clients in courts across Alabama.

Flat Fees You See Before You Hire Us
Most law firms make you sit through a consultation before they will breathe a word about price. We publish ours. If your matter fits a flat-fee service, you know the attorney fee before you ever pick up the phone. The only variable is your county’s filing fee, which the court sets, not us.
Contested cases work differently — no honest lawyer can flat-fee a custody fight without knowing what is in it. For those, we quote a retainer at the consultation after we understand the case, and we tell you plainly what tends to drive costs up so you can make decisions with your eyes open.
Our Flat-Fee Services
| Service | Flat Fee |
|---|---|
| Uncontested divorce — without minor children | $690 + county filing fee |
| Uncontested divorce — with minor children | $890 + county filing fee |
| Simple Last Will and Testament | $750 |
| Living Will / Advance Health Care Directive | $750 |
| Durable Financial Power of Attorney | $750 |
| General Power of Attorney | $750 |
| Durable Child Custody Power of Attorney | $750 |
| Quit claim deed (drafting, notarization, recording) | $750 |
| Qualified Domestic Relations Order (QDRO) | $2,000 |
Consultations: free by phone for uncontested divorce and probate or estate planning matters; $100 by phone or in person for contested family law matters; $100 in person for all matters.
A Focused Practice, Not a Little of Everything
Plenty of firms will take your divorce on Monday, a car wreck on Tuesday, and a criminal case on Wednesday. We made a different choice. Family law, divorce, and probate are what we do, day in and day out, in courthouses across Alabama.
That focus compounds. Our attorneys know how local judges run their dockets, what county clerks require, and where cases like yours tend to go sideways. When your lawyer has handled hundreds of matters like yours, fewer things surprise them — and fewer surprises means less cost and less stress for you.
Eight Attorneys. Four Offices. One Standard.
A solo lawyer is one hearing conflict away from rescheduling your case. A statewide firm with real depth is not.
Coverage When It Counts
With attorneys in Birmingham, Chelsea, Huntsville, and Montgomery, someone from the firm can be where your case needs them, when it needs them.
Local Knowledge, Statewide Reach
Each office is staffed by attorneys who practice in that region’s courts regularly — and the whole firm is behind every case.
One Firm Standard
Same fee schedule, same communication expectations, same quality of work — whichever office handles your matter.
Built to Be Easy to Hire, Wherever You Live
You should not have to take a half day off work to hire a lawyer. Consultations happen by phone. Documents are signed electronically. Filings go through Alabama’s statewide e-filing system. Most uncontested divorces are finished without the client ever setting foot in an office or a courtroom.
And when your case does require in-person work — a contested hearing, a mediation, a probate proceeding — you have a real office and a real attorney in your region, not a post office box and a call center.
Why Choose Us — Frequently Asked Questions
1.What does a consultation with The Harris Firm LLC cost?
Phone consultations are free for uncontested divorce and probate or estate planning matters. Consultations for contested family law matters are $100, and in-person consultations are $100 for any matter.
2.Are your flat fees really flat?
Yes. On a flat-fee service, the attorney fee is the attorney fee. The only amount added is your county’s court filing fee, which is set by the county and paid to the court, and any third-party costs we tell you about in advance.
3.Why do you not handle every kind of legal case?
Because focus produces better results. Concentrating on family law, divorce, and probate means our attorneys handle the same kinds of cases, in the same courts, every week. When a matter falls outside what we do, we will tell you and point you toward the right kind of lawyer.
4.Will I work with an actual attorney?
Yes. Your case is handled by a licensed Alabama attorney in the office serving your region, supported by our staff. You will know your attorney’s name, and you will hear from them.
5.Do I need to visit an office to hire you?
No. Phone consultations, electronic signatures, and statewide e-filing mean most matters can be handled entirely remotely. In-person meetings are always available at our Birmingham, Chelsea, Huntsville, and Montgomery offices if you prefer.
6.How do I know what a contested case will cost?
Contested matters are billed against a retainer quoted at your consultation, after an attorney understands the issues in your case. We tell you up front what drives contested costs — the number of disputed issues, discovery, and how far the case goes before settling — so there are no surprises.
