The annual drives: Christmas food drives at our offices benefit the Community Food Bank of Central Alabama, Heart of Alabama Food Bank, and Food Bank of North Alabama — and our Montgomery office runs a yearly toy drive for children in the juvenile court system.
Beyond the drives: Annual giving to Shelby Humane, support for charity rodeo events across the River Region, a firm float in Prattville’s annual Christmas parade, and pro bono, court-appointed, and volunteer leadership work by our attorneys.

Our Annual Christmas Food Drives
Each holiday season, every Harris Firm office becomes a food drive drop-off point for the food bank serving its region, and the firm runs an online fundraiser alongside each drive. Clients, neighbors, and the other businesses in our buildings pitch in — and every year the boxes by the elevators fill faster than the year before.

The Montgomery Christmas Toy Drive
Our Montgomery attorneys spend a lot of time in juvenile court, and they see what the children who pass through it are carrying. Every Christmas, our Montgomery office holds a toy drive benefiting children in the local juvenile court system — kids for whom a wrapped present is not a given.
New, unwrapped toys can be dropped off at our Commerce Street office during the drive each December. It is a small thing that lands in a big way, and it has become one of the traditions our Montgomery team is proudest of.

Pro Bono and Court-Appointed Work
Access to justice should not depend on the size of a bank account. Four of our attorneys — John Tyler Winans, Julia Collins, Rebecca Lee, and LaTasha Huffman — accept court appointments representing indigent clients, and our attorneys take on pro bono matters where the need is real and the client has nowhere else to turn.
Appointed work is quiet work. There are no press releases and no billboards — just lawyers showing up for people the system requires to be represented and who could never pay for it. We consider it part of the job.

Life at the Firm
A firm that gives together should probably laugh together too. Every October 31st, all four offices square off in our annual Halloween costume contest — the results get posted on our Facebook page, and the trash talk between offices starts around Labor Day. Every December, the whole team gathers for the firm’s annual Christmas party at Fleming’s in Birmingham.

During the drives, yes — collection boxes are set out at each office, and you do not need to be a client to contribute. Outside drive season, call the office first and we will point you to the right place.
