Steven Harris has helped individuals throughout the State of Alabama file uncontested divorce for almost two decades. The Harris Firm LLC was created in 2007 and has grown to be a statewide law firm since then. We have helped individuals with various civil matters, practicing extensively in both the Alabama State Court and the Federal Court systems, for almost two decades.

How We Started and How We Grew

When Steven Harris opened the firm in 2007, it was a small Birmingham practice. The idea was simple. Handle family law and probate matters the way clients actually want them handled, with clear communication and fair pricing, and do it well enough that people tell their friends. That word-of-mouth is what built the firm. Nearly two decades later, The Harris Firm LLC has grown into one of the larger family law practices in Alabama, with four offices and a team of attorneys covering the northern, central, and Birmingham-metro regions of the state.

What hasn’t changed is the approach. We still believe the client should always know what is happening in their case, what the next step is, and what it is going to cost. A lot of law firms lose sight of that as they grow. We have worked hard not to.

What We Handle

Our practice is built around four main areas. Most of what we do falls into one of them.

Family law. This is the core of the firm. Child custody, child support, paternity, adoptions, protection from abuse, juvenile matters, contempt petitions, and modifications of existing court orders. If your case involves a family relationship and a courthouse, our family law attorneys handle it.

Divorce. We handle both contested and uncontested divorces. A contested divorce is one where you and your spouse cannot agree, and you need an attorney to argue your case to the judge. These typically require a retainer billed against an hourly rate. An uncontested divorce is one where you both already agree on everything, and we handle those on a flat fee. We also handle the issues that come with higher-stakes cases, including high-asset divorce, property division, retirement accounts, and military divorce.

Probate. When someone passes away, their estate often has to go through probate before assets can be distributed. We guide families through that process, from filing the petition and obtaining Letters of Administration through closing the estate. We handle estates with and without a will, small estates, and estates that involve wrongful death or injury claims.

Estate planning. Wills, trusts, powers of attorney, living wills, property deeds, and guardianships and conservatorships. The goal here is to get your affairs in order so your family is not left guessing later. Many of these documents are handled at a flat fee.

We keep offices in four Alabama cities so that most clients have an attorney within reasonable driving distance. Our Birmingham office serves Jefferson County and the surrounding metro. Our Chelsea office serves Shelby County and the communities south and east of Birmingham. Our Huntsville office serves Madison County and north Alabama. Our Montgomery office serves the River Region and central Alabama. Because much of our work, especially uncontested divorce, can be handled remotely, we are able to help clients in counties across the state even where we do not have a physical office.
