Statewide Representation
One Firm. Four Offices. Serving Clients Across Alabama.
The Harris Firm LLC handles family law, divorce, and probate matters for clients throughout Alabama from offices in Birmingham, Chelsea, Huntsville, and Montgomery. Phone consultations, electronic signatures, and statewide e-filing mean you do not have to live near an office to work with us.
From flat-fee uncontested divorces filed in any Alabama county to contested cases in the courthouses around our four offices, we built this firm to be easy to hire wherever you live. Phone consultations are free for uncontested divorce and probate matters; contested family law consultations are $100.
In short: The Harris Firm LLC represents Alabama families statewide. Our offices are in Birmingham, Chelsea, Huntsville, and Montgomery, and our attorneys appear in circuit, district, and probate courts across central Alabama, north Alabama, the River Region, and beyond.
How it works: Most cases start with a phone consultation. Paperwork is signed electronically, filings go through Alabama’s statewide e-filing system, and many uncontested matters are finished without you ever stepping into an office or a courtroom.
The Alabama framework: Venue rules under Alabama Code §30-2-4 decide which county a divorce is filed in, and Alabama Code §30-2-5 sets a six-month residency requirement when the other spouse lives out of state. We sort out the right courthouse for you as part of the consultation.
Good to know: Our attorney fees do not change based on where you live. What changes county to county is the court’s own filing fee, which is set by each county and varies across the state.

Birmingham Metro and Central Alabama
Our Birmingham and Chelsea offices anchor the firm’s family law practice in Jefferson, Shelby, Tuscaloosa, Talladega, and Calhoun Counties. This is where the firm started, and it remains our busiest region. Our attorneys are in the Jefferson County and Shelby County courthouses week in and week out.
Across the metro, we serve families in Bessemer, Hoover, Homewood, Mountain Brook, Vestavia Hills, Trussville, Irondale, Gardendale, Fultondale, and Hueytown in Jefferson County, along with Pelham, Helena, Calera, Montevallo, Columbiana, Westover, and the rest of Shelby County. In Tuscaloosa County we serve Northport, and in Talladega County we serve Sylacauga and Childersburg.
The counties ringing the metro are part of this region too: St. Clair County, including Pell City, Leeds, Moody, Ashville, Odenville, and Springville; Blount County, including Oneonta; Walker County, including Jasper and Sumiton; and Bibb County.
Huntsville and North Alabama
Our Huntsville office on Clinton Avenue serves one of the fastest-growing regions in the country. From Madison County we cover the Tennessee Valley and the surrounding counties, handling divorce, custody, and probate matters for families across north Alabama.
North Alabama coverage runs well beyond the Huntsville metro. We serve Florence and the rest of Lauderdale County in the Shoals, Cullman in Cullman County, Albertville in Marshall County, Gadsden in Etowah County, Moulton and Lawrence County, and Scottsboro and Jackson County.
Montgomery and the River Region
Our Montgomery office on Commerce Street sits blocks from the Montgomery County Courthouse and serves the capital region, the surrounding Black Belt counties, and east Alabama down through the Wiregrass.
Around the capital, we serve Wetumpka and the rest of Elmore County, Clanton and Chilton County, Selma and Dallas County, Tuskegee and Macon County, and Lowndes, Crenshaw, Bullock, and Hale Counties. Greenville in Butler County and Troy in Pike County round out the central stretch of the region.
To the east and southeast, our Montgomery attorneys also serve Auburn and Opelika in Lee County, Phenix City in Russell County, Eufaula in Barbour County, and Dothan and Houston County in the Wiregrass.
Mobile and Baldwin County
We serve clients along the Gulf Coast in Mobile and throughout Baldwin County, including Fairhope, Daphne, Spanish Fort, Bay Minette, Foley, Robertsdale, Gulf Shores, and Orange Beach. Coastal clients most often hire us for flat-fee uncontested divorces and probate and estate matters, both of which we routinely handle from start to finish by phone, email, and e-filing.
If you are in Mobile or Baldwin County and are not sure whether your case is one we can handle remotely, call the Montgomery office. A five-minute conversation will answer it.
How We Serve Clients Far From Our Offices
Distance is not the obstacle it used to be. Here is how a case works when you live two counties — or two hundred miles — from the nearest Harris Firm office. Court costs vary by county; see our filing fees by county guide for what your county charges.
Start With a Phone Consultation
Phone consultations are free for uncontested divorce and probate matters and $100 for contested family law matters. An attorney reviews your situation, tells you what the case will cost, and tells you honestly whether we are the right firm for it.
Sign Up and Send Documents Electronically
Fee agreements, questionnaires, and case documents move by email and electronic signature. No trips to an office, no printing, no postage unless a court requires an original.
We File in Your County
Alabama’s statewide e-filing system lets us file divorce and family law cases in circuit courts across all 67 counties. Venue rules decide which courthouse your case belongs in; we handle that analysis so it is filed right the first time.
Finalize — Often Without a Courtroom
Most uncontested divorces in Alabama are finalized on the paperwork, with no hearing at all. When a hearing is required, we tell you exactly what to expect and appear with you.
Areas We Serve — Frequently Asked Questions
1.Do I have to live near one of your offices to hire The Harris Firm LLC?
No. We represent clients throughout Alabama from our Birmingham, Chelsea, Huntsville, and Montgomery offices. Consultations can be handled by phone, paperwork can be signed electronically, and Alabama’s statewide e-filing system lets us file in courts across the state. Many clients never need to visit an office at all.
2.Can you handle my uncontested divorce anywhere in Alabama?
Yes. Our flat-fee uncontested divorce service is available statewide: $690 plus the filing fee without minor children, or $890 plus the filing fee with minor children. Most uncontested divorces are completed entirely by phone, email, and mail, no matter which county the case is filed in.
3.Do you take contested cases outside the counties surrounding your offices?
Often, yes. Our attorneys regularly appear in circuit and district courts across central Alabama, north Alabama, and the River Region. For contested cases in more distant counties, availability depends on the court and the case itself, so call the nearest office and we will tell you straight whether we can take it.
4.Which office should I contact if I do not live in one of your office cities?
Contact the office closest to you. Birmingham at (205) 201-1789 serves the metro and central Alabama, Chelsea at (205) 677-5490 serves Shelby County and the surrounding area, Huntsville at (256) 665-9473 serves north Alabama, and Montgomery at (334) 782-9938 serves the River Region, the Wiregrass, and the Gulf Coast.
5.Can my consultation be done by phone?
Yes. Phone consultations are free for uncontested divorce and probate or estate planning matters. Consultations for contested family law matters are $100, whether by phone or in person.
6.Why do court filing fees differ from county to county?
Each Alabama county sets its own court costs, so the filing fee for the same type of case can vary by well over a hundred dollars depending on where it is filed. Our attorney fee stays the same statewide; only the county’s filing fee changes.
